Music and Education

Teach K-12
91猫先生鈥檚 music education track will equip you to work with students from kindergarten to twelfth grade, in both choral/vocal and instrument

Education is a mission field and at 91猫先生 our graduates are prepared to teach redemptively in both public and Christian schools, or wherever they are called.

The Bachelor of Science in Education degree is designed to prepare students for professional teaching careers at various levels. Our education programs lead to certification in Pennsylvania through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Certification in many other states is readily achieved through inter-state certification agreements.
Teacher Candidacy and Certification Requirements
Students who graduate from 91猫先生 with a degree in music education will:
- Perform music with expressiveness, excellence, breadth, and stylistic integrity
- Perceive, understand, value, and critically respond to a variety of historical and current musical works in Western and other cultures
- Think critically and communicate clearly about theoretical, aesthetic, ethical, social, economic, and philosophical issues in music, relating these to a Christian worldview
- Lead others in the appropriate enjoyment and performance of music
- Perform in student recitals, performance boards, and ensemble concerts each semester
- Understand the content knowledge of the various disciplines, plans meaningful instruction to meet the diverse needs of the students
- Know and apply theories of learning and development to create a learning environment that will accommodate a diverse student population
- Understand and use appropriate instructional strategies and effective communication supported by technology to foster critical thinking and collaboration in the classroom
- Develop reflective professional practices based upon current educational research to improve opportunities for student learning
- Identify and analyze educational processes and issues from a Christian perspective
Pennsylvania is a member of NASDTEC the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification. This membership assists in clarification of reciprocity from one state to another. 91猫先生’s Education program meets Pennsylvania’s educational requirements for licensure. Once Pennsylvania licensure is earned, then the PA license can be evaluated by the other state. To view the current reciprocity agreements, please visit: www.nasdtec.net/page/InterstateAgreements

91猫先生, CUBM Host Virtual Music Conference
91猫先生 Pittsburgh Campus and the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry host the Virtual Spring Music Conference on February 13 and 20, and March 13 and 20, 2021. The conference features noted speakers addressing aspects of music and music ministry, the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual worship experiences and their personal testimonies in a series of video conference sessions.
Student Musicians Perform Junior and Senior Recitals at 91猫先生
In celebration of their musical growth, two students will perform recitals. A junior piano recital will be performed by Zhang, Yu 鈥淎lice鈥 on February 28 at 7 p.m. in John White Chapel and a senior voice recital by will be sung Annie Dawson on February 29 at 4 p.m. also in John White Chapel.
