The mission of the physics program is to provide students with a thorough introduction to the basic theoretical and experimental methods of physics.

The learning objectives for a physics major are:
- Students will be proficient in basic physics content in the four conceptual areas:
- Mechanics
- Thermodynamics
- Modern Physics
- Electromagnetism
- Students will be competent working in a collaborative laboratory setting, using specialized equipment, designing, and performing experiments, and interpreting data.
- Students will be able to apply appropriate analytical and computational modeling techniques to understand physical phenomena.
- Students will be able to communicate technical information clearly and accurately in written and oral forms.
- Students will understand a career in physics as an appropriate Christian vocation where faith provides context for understanding the significance and implications of knowledge gained through scientific inquiry.
